St John NT welcomes new Director of Ambulance Services
  25 Nov 2019

St John Ambulance Australia (NT) CEO Judith Barker has today welcomed Andrew Thomas to the organisation as the new Director Ambulance Services.

Mr Thomas was most recently the Operations Manager, Limestone Coast for SA Ambulance Service.

“It is a pleasure to have Andrew on board, with his extensive experience he will be an asset to the team and enable us to continue to deliver a very high standard of emergency, non-emergency and support services to the people of the Northern Territory.

“With a strong ambulance leadership background, Andrew has invaluable experience in emergency management for major incidents as well as key ambulance delivery projects,” she said.

“His experience and leadership within our Ambulance Service will no doubt be of great benefit to our organisation.”

Mr Thomas has previously worked in the Northern Territory as an Intensive Care Paramedic with the Royal Flying Doctor Service based at Yulara as part of the multi-disciplinary health team to provide primary health, emergency response, and critical incident medical support to resort and surrounding indigenous communities. He also assisted with the provision of health care at the Mutitjulu Medical Centre.

The Ambulance Services division of St John NT provides emergency and non-emergency road ambulance and patient transport services including two Triple Zero (000) communications centres under contract to the Northern Territory Government.

In 2018/19 St John NT answered over 52,000 Triple Zero calls and provided over 42,000 emergency responses.

The former Director of Ambulance Services, Matthew Eastham has left St John NT to take up a new role in Tasmania. Ms Barker thanked Mr Eastham for his service to St John NT particularly over the past two years as the organisation has undertaken a reform program to ensure that we can deliver a quality ambulance service to the Northern Territory community.
