Volunteers. They make a BIG difference.

Our volunteers come from different backgrounds and professions yet are united in their aim to help the sick and the injured in the community.

There is a range of opportunities for volunteers to become involved with St John. As a volunteer you become a valuable member of the team helping the community in the familiar black and white uniform. Volunteers provide first aid coverage and support at sporting, entertainment and community events, can assist the Ambulance Service by providing personnel as ambulance crew and in emergency events such as manning cyclone shelters.

Another type of membership is as an Operational Support member. Operational Support members perform roles such as logistics, administration, training or supervision in cadet divisions.

Volunteers meet each week to ensure their first aid training is current and maintained. Using the latest techniques and equipment, St John volunteers donate their time free of charge to provide professional first aid support to the community.

Then we have just the thing for you!

We are a growing Division with members from a variety of different backgrounds. Palmerston Adult Division formed in 2003. Our members are ordinary people who are prepared to devote their time of rendering first aid to the community service. In return the members gain skills and personnel satisfaction that only St John can provide.

We have fun while we are learning new skills and we also have great social nights as well. We cover events from small school fetes or local BMX up to Bass in the Grass/V8’s and attending your local show. You put first aid skills in practice. If you come across a severe accident and you are first on scene, you will be able to put your first aid skills into action. Come along and check out our division and meet new friends.

Youth - Palmerston (15 - 25 years old)

Palmerston Youth Division formed in 2009 and encourages flexible volunteering which allows our members to still be committed to studies and other events we participate in. The division can be a stepping stone for members before they move into an adult division or go to a cadet division in a leadership role. The program is designed by the youth members to ensure topics are relevant to youth needs. We don't have a rank system or wear uniforms at training night to encourage team building.

We participate in group duties together at events that relate to the youth and our members enjoy attending. Our theme is to have fun and make friends while doing something that gives back to the community. If you think this is something you want to be a part of please drop by for a bit to eat and meet the crew.

Cadets - Palmerston (8 - 18 years old)

Palmerston Cadet Division started in 1998 and thrives on developing young leaders, role models, independent and competent first aiders for the community.

Our adult members and Superintendent are passionate and committed members who are always willing to help. If you like to build lifelong friendships and skills, come join us on our meeting night.

The Batchelor St John Ambulance Division was created in 1980 and is based in the scenic town of Batchelor at the gateway to Litchfield Park approximately 100 km south of Darwin. This Division attracts membership from the Coomalie Region (Batchelor, Adelaide River, Lake Bennett and surrounding rural areas). The region has a population of just over 1000 people but this number greatly increases during the Dry Season with tourists and students at Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education.

Our division is a small but active group of volunteers that meet regularly for training at either the Batchelor Health Clinic or the Ambulance shed. As well as training we cover a wide range of public duties such as the Adelaide River Races and Show, the Lingalonga and Isotopia festivals plus community events such as Australia Day and ANZAC Day.

We have a 4WD First Aid Unit that is housed in the Ambulance Shed next to FERG Batchelor (Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service). Both these volunteer organisations provide emergency services for the Coomalie Region and we regularly combine training to promote comradery between the two volunteer organisations and strengthen our knowledge and skills in emergency situations. Because we are a small division we are always looking for new volunteers. If you are interested please contact St John NT Headquarters on (08) 8922 6205.
