St John NT boosts Board capability with healthcare, business and legal expertise
  30 Nov 2023

St John NT has appointed Andrew George, Professor Jo Seiler and David Blair to the Board at its Annual General Meeting in Darwin yesterday.

Professor Jo Seiler is the Dean of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Health at Charles Darwin University and former CEO of Darwin Private Hospital. With over 25 years in the health sector, Jo has operational, management and leadership skills and a deep understanding of the healthcare needs of the Northern Territory.

David Blair brings to the Board business management skills, governance, finance and accounting. With experience from a range of sectors including health, not-for-profit and commercial, David is currently employed as the Head of Corporate Services for Danila Dilba Health Services and a member of the Northern Territory Primary Health Care Network Board.

Andrew George has many years of litigation experience as a Barrister. Andrew is a Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and an Assistant Inspector-General of the ADF. He has previously held statutory appointments as Chairperson of the Health & Community Services Complaints Review Committee, and also as a member of both the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Local Government Disciplinary Committee. Andrew served with the RAAF in the Iraq War, East Timor, and in Afghanistan.

St John NT Chair Peter Carew said he was enthusiastic with the wealth of knowledge the new members would bring to the St John NT Board.

“It is an honour to welcome Jo, David and Andrew to the Board. We received an overwhelming response to our call for new Board members and I am inspired by the level of expertise of the candidates wishing to contribute to future of St John NT.

“Now more than ever we need to think outside the box in how we approach our commercial activities and support our community. I am sure that the combined skills and knowledge of our new members will enhance the talent of our existing Board members and help drive the development of strategic goals for the organisation,” Mr Carew said.

In welcoming the new members, Mr Carew also thanked out going Board member Robert Kendrick.

“I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the generous contribution Rob has made of his time and expertise to St John NT. As a for-purpose organisation, it cannot be overstated the valuable role Board members play in providing strategic advice and governance to support the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Leadership Team,” he said.
