Media Release: St John NT invests big in building community resilience
8 August 2022
St John NT has officially opened its new retail store at 412 Stuart Highway, Winnellie on Monday 8 August.
The $100,000 refurbishment of St John NT’s new Top End retail store represents a significant investment into its commercial first aid training, sales and equipment business.
St John NT CEO Judith Barker said it is fantastic to see the vision for the new store come to fruition.
“St John NT is dedicated to improving health outcomes, by saving lives and building resilience.
“We can do this in many ways, the ambulance service and our volunteers - which we all know and love - but also by providing members of our community the skills and equipment to be able to save lives in an emergency.
“This store represents a commitment to making sure our community can do that,” Ms Barker said.
“After 10 years at 416, 412 provides improved sales and warehousing facilities, easy access and additional parking, and while we may have only moved two doors from our old premises, we have taken major steps in improving our service to the community,” she said.
To mark the opening of the new store Ms Barker presented representatives of the Galiwin’ku Women’s Space, a new automatic external defibrillator (AED) and first aid kits for the new facility and vehicles.
“No one knows when they are going to be in an emergency situation, having the right skills and equipment could mean the difference between life and death,” Ms Barker said.
The AED adds to the 37 life-saving devices St John NT has already donated this year to rural, regional, and remote communities across the NT, as part of its public access defibrillator program.
All purchases made through St John NT’s commercial business directly support St John NT’s volunteer program, community education and event health services across the Northern Territory.
