MEDIA RELEASE: IWD national honours for St John NT women
  08 Mar 2021

Six St John NT employees have been recognised in the 2021 Council of Ambulance Authorities Women in Ambulance Awards. This campaign was launched in 2020 and is designed to highlight successful and hardworking women in ambulance services across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

Nominees were put forward by their peers and were selected from all areas of St John NT – from operational staff to communications, management and corporate services.

These awards fall on International Women’s Day, and St John NT CEO Judith Barker said she hoped the next generation of women would feel emboldened to reach for leadership roles.

“We are recognising inspirational women and our future leaders with the aim of supporting them in growing successful careers in ambulance services. We’d like to congratulate all nominees and recipients as well as thank those who make the extra effort to participate in this process of recognition,” she said.

With women making up 48% of the workforce, St John NT is well on its way to achieving gender parity. “We currently have 60% representation of women on our Executive Leadership Team. Ensuring young women can see themselves in leadership positions is so important for encouraging people to pursue their goals. This is why St John NT is committed to promoting women as role models to the rest of the workforce,” Judith Barker stated.

The NT Women in Ambulance honour recipients were recognised for their embodiment of St John NT values, achievements through their work, leadership and willingness to guide and mentor others.
