Awards to mark 25 years of celebrating those dedicated to life-saving service
  09 Sep 2024

Nominations are open for awards recognising those who put others before themselves, often going beyond the call of duty to provide critical life-saving support services to the Northern Territory community.

Each year St John NT staff touch the lives of tens of thousands of people across the Territory through providing medical assistance, education and support.

“These staff members work each day within the community to provide life-saving medical assistance, vital first aid training, support services and volunteering to serve their community,” St John NT CEO Andrew Tombs said.

“The Awards are an opportunity to highlight the dedication and passion of those who act as mentors and leaders in our service and who provide inspiration to others in how we care for the community.”

The 2024 Awards will recognise the work of our Paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers, Patient Transport Officers, volunteers and support staff from across the organisation and celebrate a significant partnership.

Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise President Joseph Aladin said that this year would mark a significant milestone for the partnership with St John, celebrating 25 Years of the Paramedic of the Year Award.

“From humble beginning and in partnership with St John NT, the awards have flourished and grown into the St John NT Excellence Awards,” Mr Aladin said.

“Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise is proud to support the awards, which align with our belief that an individual can serve their community through exemplary professional practise, through the demonstration of integrity and high ethical standards.”

Mr Tombs encouraged the community to show their support by nominating individuals who have been outstanding in their contributions in providing care and compassion, along with the professionalism, in what are sometimes difficult circumstances.

“Whether it is our response to a Triple Zero (000) call, paramedics at the scene of an accident, volunteers at major events, corporate support staff, or through provision of first aid training, each member of our team is committed to caring for the community across the Territory,” Mr Tombs said.

Members of the public can nominate a St John NT staff member or volunteer in one of 18 categories until Monday, 7 October. Award recipients will be announced at an awards ceremony in November.

Categories include St John NT paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers, Patient Transport Officers, corporate services staff and junior and adult volunteers.

The St John NT Excellence Award would not be able to go ahead without the generous support of sponsors including the Northern Territory Government, Rotary Club of Darwin Sunrise, Australasian College of Paramedicine, Charles Darwin University, AANT, Area9, The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Palmerston Regional Business Association, ZOLL Medical Corporation, Ferno, Nine Darwin and Marsh.
