Applications Open! Life-saving AEDs available for Northern Territory community groups
  12 Feb 2025

Community organisations in the Northern Territory can now access life-saving Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) through St John NT’s new Heart Grant program, thanks to the generous support of the Northern Territory Government’s Community Benefit Fund.

Valued at over $2,500, the Heart Grant program will provide an AED device, relevant training and essential equipment to 50 Territory community organisations, sporting groups and not-for-profits, for just $249.

Applications are now being accepted for the new initiative, which will increase the number of AEDs available to the public across the Northern Territory, enhancing emergency preparedness.

St John NT CEO Andrew Tombs said that defibrillators are a life-saving tool that should be accessible to every Territorian.

“With 90% of sudden cardiac arrests occurring outside of hospitals, access to AEDs is critical for survival, especially in remote areas where professional medical support could be hours away.

“The St John NT Heart Grant program will increase the number of public access AEDs across the Territory by over 10%, meaning more lives saved.”

For $249, successful grant applicants will receive a fully automated St John G5 iCPR AED, AED Ready Kit, outdoor windowless cabinet, signage, poster, and AED training.

St John NT Heart Grant applications close at 5pm ACST 30 June 2025, unless allocated sooner.
