A well-respected and admired member of St John NT, who has received commendations for his care and courage to ensure the safety of others above his own has been awarded the Ambulance Service Medal as part of the Australia Day Honours List.
Antoni Kwiatkowski is well-known for making a significant contribution as a role model for his care, compassion, professionalism and mentorship over his 24 years of dedicated service to St John NT.
Antoni (affectionately known as Cocky) has worked in numerous roles including as an Emergency Medical Call Taker-Dispatcher (EMD) where he triaged thousands of Triple Zero (000) calls while co-ordinating resources across the Territory before completing his studies to become a Paramedic in Darwin.
St John NT CEO Andrew Tombs said that over his two decades as a Paramedic, Antoni has received several commendations for his care, compassion, and professionalism.
“Although his contributions would be too many to note, several occasions along with his day-to-day actions make him a very worthy recipient of the honour the Ambulance Service Medal honour,” Mr Tombs said.
“In one instance he put the safety of another before his own and was commended for his courage and bravery in going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the safety of a person in a vulnerable position.”
Mr Tombs said that Antoni’s positive supportive nature, passion for helping others and dedication to his profession was not only felt by his peers, by the thousands of patients Antoni has treated over his time as an EMD and Paramedic.
“He has also received letters and acknowledgements of thanks from members of the public and other medical staff for his outstanding work ethic and critical prehospital care in saving lives in challenging circumstances,” Mr Tombs said.
Antoni has also stepped up to relieve in many roles with St John NT, including in Katherine and in remote areas as Officer in Charge at Nhulunbuy. While in these roles he made a valuable impact continually stepping up at short notice to support the small community and the cohort of St John staff.
In 2010 Antoni further extended himself and underwent Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training with other members from around Australia, providing him with new skills to make himself available to deploy anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.
