MEDIA RELEASE: The Territory is healthy, happy and hungry for more events!
  07 May 2021

Bass in the Grass is just over a week away, and the Territory’s events are going gangbusters despite the rest of the country still reeling from the effects of COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions.

With over 400 events already confirmed this Dry season, St John NT are looking to Territorians to be a part of these incredible events including concerts, motorsports and rodeos.

The St John NT Volunteer and Events Department are currently receiving between 30 and 40 event booking requests weekly, something which is anticipated to increase now that the Dry season has arrived.

“Almost all of our events in the first half of last year were cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions” Director of Volunteer Services Annette Plowman stated. “We knew things would pick up this year, but it’s exceeded our expectations!”

St John NT Event Health Services are expecting to recoup the events they postponed due to COVID-19. In fact, with a number of events increasing their capacity, the 2021 portfolio is looking to be better than ever before.

St John NT provides critical support in the planning and implementation of events across the Territory. With so much on this Dry season, the hunt is on for volunteers who want to be a bigger part of the Territory’s best events.

“Our Event Health Services volunteers are integral to the running of so many Territory events. This means that not only do our volunteers gain new skills, meet great people and attend events for free, they get the satisfaction in knowing their important place in the community”.

As well as having a positive impact on the community, volunteering can improve your own mental health and wellbeing. Regularly connecting with others can help you develop a solid support base, increase your confidence and self-esteem, and alleviate symptoms of depression!

“For anyone who is interested in a career in the health industry, wants a leg-up in the job market, or just wants to have fun and build lifelong memories, we don’t require any experience and will provide all training you need to be a part of something really special.”

If you are interested in becoming an Event Health Services volunteer, please contact volunteers@stjohnnt.asn.au or call 08 8922 6205.
